Hours worked per week.
The pie chart below shows the number and percentage of all people who reported that they worked during quarter 2 of 2018, and the amount of working hours they reported they worked for per week.
The summary below provides the number of people that worked during quarter 2 of 2018 as well as the number of working hours per week
The bulk of those employed (almost 57%) stated tat they worked between 40 and 45 hours per week. Which equates to between 160 and 180 hours a month. That is roughly 8 hours of work per day. Almost 29% of people reported that they worked more than 45 hours a week (or 9 hours a day).
- Working less than 15 hours per week: 341 769

Men

While a large percentage of South Africans report to work for more than 9 hours a day (for both sexes it amounted to around 28% or 4.6 million people, the story of their long working days doesn't end there. The trip home is another time consumers with the average South African taking more than 30 minutes to get to the office, and another 30 minutes to get home from work. So one can safely add another hour of the day spent on commuting.
