The Winners:
Interesting to note is the fact that government's contribution to the overall economy of the Northern Cape has increased slightly from 1995 to 2014.
The big loser in Nortern Cape's economy is the Mining and quarrying sector, dropping from almost 35% (in 1995) to only contributing 29.5% (in 2014). While it is a big drop, this industry is still by far the biggest industry in Northern Cape
On the winning side of Northern Cape's economy is the Finance, Reasl Estate and Business Services sector.
Transport, storage and communications being another winner in terms of relative importance for Northern Cape's economy.
Another winner is the Trade industry (which includes wholesale, retail and motor trade). While the above three industries has seen growth over time in Northern Cape's economy, one has to wonder whether this is actual growth in these industries, or whether these industries just gained importance due to the fact that the mining and quarrying industry no longer contributes as much as it used to.
