The aim of this page is to provide users with an interactive experience of economic data using Maps of not only South Africa and its provinces but the world map for international trade statistics. We will look to keep developing interactive map data for our users to enjoy.

Often the poorest are hardest hit by inflation as essential goods price (such as food) are highly volatile and can experience wild swings both up and down. As can be seen from the map above, one of the poorest provinces (Limpopo), experienced the highest year on year inflation in February 2016. This is largely driven by sharp increases in food prices due to the drought experienced in South Africa.

North West experienced a sharp drop in the annual GDP (2014 compared to 2013). This is largely driven by the sharp decline in the mining industry as this industry makes up a large portion of North West's GDP.

South Africa's biggest export items are it minerals and resources. Think coal, platinum, iron ore etc.

Largest value items being imported by South Africa includes Crude oil from Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, and motor vehicles from Germany, USA, Japan etc. Other big imports include large machinery and equipment.
