Average price per 1kg of IQF chicken
Based on data supplied by Statistics South Africa the average price per 1kg of IQF chicken per province is shown in the bar chart below.
Based on the graphic above it is clear KwaZulu-Natal pays the most for 1kg of IQF chicken, followed closely by those living in Gauteng, while the Northern Cape's consumers pays the least for 1kg of IQF chicken.
The difference between the most expensive province for 1kg of IQF chicken and cheapest province for 1kg of IQF chicken is R12.10 per kilogram. Thus those in KZN paid 36% more for 1kg of IQF chicken than those staying in the Northern Cape. That is a significant price difference between these two provinces.
The average price across South Africa for 1kg of IQF chicken for May 2018 worked out to R40.10 a kilogram. 5 provinces had average prices above the national average while 4 provinces had prices below the national average of R40.10. We never stop being amazed at retailers pricing behaviour.
