Average hourly wages of truckers in the USA for 2017
So ever watched a movie based in America that shows these massive trucks driving around in the USA and wondered just how much these guys are making? Well based on data obtained for the USA's BLS we calculated the average hourly wages of Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers in the USA per state (where we could link the data to specific state). The interactive map shows for the available data, the average hourly wage earned by "truckers" in the USA per state. The lighter the green the lower the hourly wage, the darker the blue the higher the average hourly wage of truckers in the USA. A simple average across the states for which the data is available showed an average of $21.35 per hour earned by Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers.
The state in which Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers earned the most per hour was New Jersey with $26.5 and the lowest was West Virginia $18.9 an hour earned.

So how does this compare to those active in the transportation industry in South Africa? South Africans involved in the transportation industry earned an average of R143 (or $10.73) per hour. Based on data from South Africa's quarterly employment statistics survey and the 2017 exchange rate as obtained from the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). So the average American "trucker" earns almost double the amount per hour than that of South Africans involved in the land transport industry.
