We take a look at the average price of 1kg rump per province per year from the start of 2010. And it is clear meat prices has been increasing steadily every year. And while there are significant differences in the prices paid per kilogram between the various provinces, the one thing is very clear and that is that the trend of meat prices is up up and away.

Average price per 1kg of rump
Based on data supplied by Statistics South Africa the average price per 1kg of rump per year per province is shown in the line graph below.
Based on the graphic above the upwards trend in rump prices per kilogram over time is clear. The summary below shows the average price paid by consumers in various provinces in 2018 so far for 1 kilogram of rump.
Interestingly there is an almost R20 difference per kilogram of rump between the Free State and North West. With those living in Limpopo paying almost 18% more for a kilogram of rump than those living in the Free State.

- Western Cape: R134.1
- Mpumalanga: R134.0
- Gauteng: R129.7
- Northern Cape: R126.4
- Eastern Cape: R126.1
- Limpopo: R124.0
- KwaZulu-Natal : R116.8
- North West: R115.3
