Total worth of all shares listed on the JSE?
The line graph below shows the total Rand value or total JSE market capital for each week ending of listed shares on the JSE, as well as the total market cap of the JSE for the same week ending of the year before.
Currently all shares listed on the JSE has a total market capital of R14.63 trillion. Thats right, all shares listed on the JSE is worth a combined R14.63 trillion. That is not small change. To put that into perspective South Africa's total economy (in current prices) is worth roughly R4.1trillion. So the total worth of shares listed on the JSE is worth roughly 3.5 times the total worth of South Africa's economy.
Lucky for investors the total market cap of the time period looked at in 2018, has not been lower than the same market cap measured for a year ago. Although growth in market over the course of the last year has been slow. The summary below provides the year on year growth in the total JSE market capital for each week ending.
