And while Australia is a far bigger supplier of tourists to South Africa than New Zealand, their population is far greater than that of their Kiwi counterparts. Australia has a population of 24.13million while New Zealand has a population of around 4.69million people. Gauteng alone has 3.1 times the number of people living in it than New Zealand, and South Africa's population as a whole is 12.3 times the size of New Zealand's and more than double the size of that of Australia. So we are not surprised to see so few tourists arriving in South Africa from New Zealand, and to a lesser extent Australia. The only concern is that the numbers seem to hover around 10 000 tourists a month from Australia and 1 500 a month from New Zealand. There is no real growth in the underlying tourist arrivals from these countries, which makes one wonder whether South Africa is doing enough to promote itself as a tourist destination.
